The evening's
action opened with the wiley veteran, L.A. Stephens, taking
on the challenge of local favorite, "Too Tough" Tim
Jackson. Jackson took the action to Stephens but later found
himself in a deadly Fujiwara armbar submission. Jackson submitted
in the punishing hold at the 9:48 mark.
A rematch from
earlier in the month saw the very popular Joey "Spank"
Silvia face Kurt Solo. Spank pulled out his high flying
daredevil moves but came up short this time. Solo rolled through
a top rope body press and with a hand full of tights, scored
the pinfall in 6:53.
The third bout
of the night pitted Johnny Blaze against Kenny James.
Both pulled out all the stops to pick up the victory but the
10-minute time limit expired as James had Blaze caught in a crossface
chickenwing submission. James, upset that he did not get the
win, attempted to take liberties
with Blaze after the match. Instead he found himself "burned"
by Blaze's devastating "3rd Degree" maneuver much to
the delight of the crowd.
The former two-time
FWA Carolinas Tag Team Champions, The $outh$ide Playas
(J-Money & L.A. Ca$h) faced the much hated United Nations
Of Devastation (Drake Tungsten & Hugh B. Johnson) in
their debut match for the CWF/FWA-Carolinas. UNOD was on a mission
to take out the former champions and stake their claim for future
title shots and it appeared that is what would happen during
the match. However the Playas fought back and nailed Tungsten
with their "3-P" finisher to defeat the UNOD after
14:21 of action.
In the only title match
of the night, Dewey Cheatum challenged FWA Carolinas Heavyweight
Champion, Otto Schwanz. Though giving up a considerable
weight advantage to Schwanz, the tough challenger pushed Schwanz
to the limit scoring numerous nearfalls throughout the match.
Size does matter, however, and Cheatum was knocked unconscious
with the vicious "Brain Scrambler" powerbomb from Schwanz.
The champion retained his title by pinfall in 11:58.
A special mixed
six-person tag team grudge match was the featured main event
as the Hirydaz (Mikael Yamaha, Sexton Tyler, and
FWA World Women's Champion Amber Holly) defeated the Hostile
Youth Project (Corey Edsel, FWA Carolinas Cruiserweight
Champion "Slick" Ric Converse, and GeeStar)
with manger Brad Stutts and Special K at ringside. The HYP has
the crowd very vocal from the very entry into the building, arriving
through the front door instead of the entrance area in defiance
of the "CWF establishment." It was a fast and furious
of nearly 10-minutes of non-stop action until the end as Sexton
Tyler made a remarkable counter to an attempted 350-lb. splash
from the second rope from Corey Esdel. Tyler was able to stand
at the last instant and grab Edsel's head, turning the splash
into a diamond cutter! Tyler scored the pinfall at the 9:41 mark
much to the delight of the fans.
