January 1999 News

Jan 29, 1999

The next Tuesday Night Fights will be on Feb 2nd in Corvallis, Oregon. PNW President, Don Owens will make a special announcement and has required The Crazy Ones, Neurosis, and VP Douglas Dream to be there...or else! The show will highlight new Oregon State Champion, Bo Justice vesus Jason Ramsey and TNF Champ, J.B. Magnum will face The Canadian Savage.

Jan 28, 1999

The February Schedule has been released for PNW. It includes two NeWA events, the World 6-Man Title Tournament and the World Hardcore Title Tournament. Those from PNW that wish to be entered should contact Don Owens on or after February 1st as Mr. Owens will not return to the PNW offices until Monday.

TNF in Portland crowned a new champion in a very exciting bout. Lot's of great action in our beloved Sports Arena last night.

The NeWA PPV is just days away...to be held in Knoxville, Tennessee this weekend. It is shaping up to be the most important night in the history of the NeWA as owner David Steele has placed the ownership of the company on the line. Don't miss this one...our whole future hangs in the balance.

Medical update on promoter Don Owens. As you may know, The Crazy Ones viciously attacked Owens with the help of Douglas Dream this past weekend in Spokane, Washington. Mr. Owens has notified us that he is home resting but should recover within a few weeks. He is expected to be able to return to work after this weekend. He is currently in a neck-brace and is receiving daily treatments for his neck and back. Unfortunately, this incident has only given Vice President Douglas Dream more authority in Mr. Owens absence.

To prevent Dream from doing any more damage to the company and its fine wrestlers while Mr. Owens is out, Mr. Owens has cancelled this weekend's shows. Mr. Owens has announced that all wrestlers will be paid anyway and to consider this a paid vacation. The next show will be TNF on Feb 2nd. Mr. Owens has guaranteed that he will be there to settle the score with Douglas Dream and The Crazy Ones.

An incredible turn of events in Spokane, Washington, last night. PNW President, Don Owens revealed his surprise...and what a surprise it was! You've got to read the full results on this one...you'll never believe what happened! We hope to update this situation very soon!

Also big news from Honolulu, Hawaii. The Super J Crown Tournament was action packed at the Aloha Stadium for this cruiserweight spectacular and we have a new NeWA World Cruiserweight Champion...see the full results on how he captured eight title belts in one night!

Jan 23, 1999

Yakima, Washington fans witnessed a very exciting night of action. The main event for the Western States Heritage Title saw "The Natural" Mike Bell come very close to capturing the championship from "The King of Pain" Stephen Greer. Bell certainly has proved his is championship material...and one wonders how much longer it will be before he finally grabs some gold in PNW. Another DWA member, Mike Mayhem nearly upset PNW Champion, Powerman 5000 in a spectacular match. Unfortunately, the on-going fued between Powerman 5000 and Mike Bell had an impact in the bout.

The most dramatic match had to be the 8-man elimination match. "Big Country" Chris Mann is certainly worthy of his "Iron Man" moniker after his showing in this bout. Tonight's title vs. career match will be much anticipated after this great performance.

Just when it looks like Douglas Dream has everything going his way in tonight's Hell-in-a-Cell Tag Team Titles vs. Careers Match, PNW President, Don Owens, has promised to even the odds tonight for the Iron Men. No word on what that will be...but with Owens present...it is sure to be something spectacular. Spokane, Washington is sure to be another great night of PNW action.

Jan 20, 1999

The first Tuesday Night Fight Champ made a great showing for himself...battling through a tough battle royal and then winning a match against the other survivor in Olympia, Washington last night.

The other big news is the surprise arrival of Tyrone Walker. He made re-introduced himself to two of his former heated rivals. But fellow Misfit member Slim Dragger didn't seem too pleased to see him. There is definitely some friction in the Misfit stable.

Jan 19, 1999

The first Tuesday Night Fight Champ will be decided tonight in Olympia, Washington. A special grudge match between Oregon State Champion, Jake Rockwell and Titan will occur as a barbwire baseball bat will be placed on top of a pole in one corner of the ring. The first person to grab it can use it. And in the main event, The Iron Men put the tag team titles on the line against the unlikely team of Kurt Wolf and Hephestus with Mr. Arrogance. Who knows what will happen with this team as Wolf has served his 30-days under Arrogance...and has decided to stay in this match. We'll have to wait and see.

Next weekend's bookings have been posted. One change is the Sunday show was cancelled due to the NeWA U.S. Tag Team Title Tournament happening in Texas the same night.

Jan 17, 1999

"The Night of Champions" at the Key Arena in Seattle, Washington, was perhaps the greatest collection of wrestlers ever on one show in PNW. The turn-away crowd was not disappointed as the show was electrifying from beginning to end. Every match was fantastic...but after the Hell-in-a-Cell, the Key Arena may not ever be the same again.

In the main event for the World Title, Nightmare and Adam Fierce showed why they are the two top wrestlers in the NeWA. A spectacular bout to cap off an incredible night of champions.

Tuesday Night Fights return this week to crown the TNF Champion to be held in Olympia, Washington. TNF will be the opportunity for wrestlers to carve out their names in the "proving grounds" and this show should do just that.

Jan 16, 1999

Bellingham, Washington proved to hold a few surprises. No one know who the man in black was that jumped Surge. And the fued between Neurosis, Claymore, and Omega is certainly getting hotter.

Some great action in the undercard matches. These wresters are working hard to break into the rankings.

The main event was action packed...but a disappointing finish for Jake Rockwell. He certainly will get another shot at the title based on his performance in this one.

Tonight we head to the Key Arena in Seattle for what could be the greatest card of all time in PNW. The NeWA World Champion, Nightmare, defends against the number one contender and NeWA International Champion, Adam Fierce. The NeWA World Tag Team Champions, The Crazy Ones puts the belts on the line against The Rebels in a special Hell-in-a-Cell bout. Plus many more title matches in this "Night of Champions" card. This show is a sell-out...we're asking fans to not come to the arena to buy tickets as there are none available. This will help out with the parking problem that will exist.

Jan 15, 1999

Two changes to upcoming matches. The World Tag Team Title Match in Seattle has been ordered to be a Hell-in-a-Cell match to prevent outside interference. The TNF in Olympia has changed as Hyuk Suh Kim has been pulled from the card and a wrestler returning to PNW has asked to take his spot...Riot!

This weekend could be the most action filled ever in PNW. The level of talent continues to get stronger and our TV ratings have soared over the past month. Saturday's "Night of Champions" at the Key Arena in Seattle, Washington, could be the best show ever held in PNW. The rumor is that the Key Arena management may make the Seattle Supersonics reschedule any game dates that conflict with PNW's show dates there because we've sold out the arena several times now. I expect there will be a turn-away crowd Saturday night.

Tuesday Night Fights goes on the road next week to Olympia, Washington, to decide our TNF Champ. Everyone is looking forward to this "Beat the Champ" series as it provides the chance to make a name for yourself in the "proving grounds."

Jan 13, 1999

This weekend's schedule is up including the next Tuesday Night Fights. A scheduling snafu was corrected on the Seattle show, as J.B. Magnum should have been listed in the six-man match instead of Mike Bell.

Jan 12, 1999

The first Tuesday Night Fights was a huge success at the Sports Arena in Portland. The Crazy Ones interjected themselves into the event, seeking revenge on Douglas Dream and The Rebels. Lot's of great action so PNW plans to continue this special on a weekly basis.

TNF will begin to feature new and up-and-coming wrestlers in PNW to give them their chance to shine in the spotlight. To help do so starting next week, a "Tuesday Night Fight Champ" will be decided in a special Battle Royal. The final two wrestlers left will square off in a match to determine the champ. Each week, a "Beat the Champ" match will be held on TNF. If the champ defends his title for four straight weeks, he will "retire" as champion and receive a PNW Title Match. The TNF title will then go back to a Battle Royal to determine the new champ.

Jan 10, 1999

A wild night in Portland, Oregon at the Rose Garden Arena. Lot's of controversy concerning many of the matches. The Legends downed the DWA. This means that Mike Bell will not get another title shot against Powerman 5000. You'll want to see the full results of this one as one has to wonder did Powerman 5000 mean to hit Mike Bell with that chair. But there was no question as to Mike Bell's actions later in the night during Powerman 5000's title defense against Surge.

Stephen Greer became the "Triple Crown" winner in the west, as he captured the Western States Heritage Title from Claymore. Greer now holds the NeWA United States Championship, the Western States Heritage Championship, and the CEW's Pacific Coast Championship. Although he won in questionable fashion, a surprise visitor made quite an impact in the match and with Greer.

With the PNW Tag Team Champions, The Iron Men, only a heartbeat away from claiming the World Tag Team Titles, The Blackjacks along with Douglas Dream managed to cost them their chance. The Rebels also interjected themselves, attacking The Crazy Ones. It looks like Dream is determined to get rid of both the Iron Men and the Crazy Ones no matter the costs.

Our first "Tuesday Night Fights" begins this week. This will be a chance for some of our newer wrestlers to shine in front of a die-hard crowd at the Sports Arena. This will be a great night as these competitiors seek to stake their claim in "the proving grounds."

Jan 9, 1999

Eugene, Oregon witnesses a night of action, including some solid bouts by recent newcomers. No titles changed hands as Claymore, Powerman 5000, and The Iron Men had successful title defenses. The Oregon State Title Match never happened as Mr. Arrogance got involved in that match. The NeWA International Tag Team Title Match was post-poned due to a scheduling conflict.

Tonight PNW will be at the Rose Garden Arena in Portland, Oregon. A huge night of opportunities as The PNW Tag Team Champions, The Iron Men get their first shot at the World Tag Team Titles as they face the champions, The Crazy Ones. Seeking to regain some lost glory, Surge challenges PNW Champion, Powerman 5000. Neurosis defends the TV Title against Hephestus and Jake Rockwell defends the Oregon State Title against a mystery opponent from Mr. Arrogance's stable.

One more very important match will feature the DWA vs. The Legends. Mike Bell and Mike Mayhem square off against Gino Hernandez and The Grappler...with a special stipulation. If the DWA doesn't win the match, Mike Bell will not receive another title match against Powerman 5000. There has been some problems between Powerman 5000 and Mike Bell recently, with Powerman 5000 blaming Bell for a series of losses.

Jan 4, 1999

It looks like Douglas Dream received another big surprise, this time in Pocatello, Idaho. It appeared that Dream's plan to dethrone The Iron Men as a lock until...you'll never believe it unless you read the results.

Powerman 5000 continued to impress with another fantastic showing against yet another NeWA Champion, this time it was United States Champion, Stephen Greer. The match ended with another misunderstanding between Powerman 5000 and "The Natural" Mike Bell.

There was more action including a wild cruiserweight title match, the big challenge bout between Bell and Gino Hernandez, and more!

Jan 3, 1999

Twin Falls, Idaho turned out to be a big surprise for Douglas Dream. His hand-picked tag team challengers turned out to be none other than Jason Ramsey and Chris Mann, The Iron Men! The duo shocked the champions and Dream while delighting the crowd as they captured the PNW Tag Team Titles.

Gino Hernandez, unscheduled for the night, interrupted the PNW Title match between champion, Powerman 5000 and challenger, Mike Bell. Bell stepped aside after a conference with Powerman 5000 and allowed Hernandez to face the champion instead. It was a great match with an ending that will certainly have some future ramifications.

Tonight we end the three-day tour of Idaho in Pocatello. Powerman 5000 challenges Stephen Greer for the United States Heavyweight Title. This should be a fantatic bout. Lot's of other important matches including two more titles on the line as the new PNW Tag Team Champions, The Iron Men, defend against The Blackjacks. And the Cruiserweight Champion, Willow the Whisp faces Hyuk Suh Kim.

Many other special grudge matches are also on the card.

Jan 2, 1999

Boise, Idaho saw some extreme action. The Neurosis/Surge fued shows no sign of cooling off as these two tore up everything in sight during their match for the PNW Television Title.

Promoter Don Owens apparently fired VP Douglas Dream...but Dream surprised Owens and everyone else with a clause in his contract that prevents his firing for 45-days! Don Owens has vowed to find a way out of this clause and not let Dream cause anymore problems in PNW. Unfortunately, Dream pulled another surprise in the Loser Leave PNW triple threat tag team match. No word on what will happen because of it.

Tonight PNW heads to Twin Falls, Idaho. Three big title matches as the NeWA International Tag Team Titles are defended, Powerman 5000 defends the PNW Title against Mike Bell, and The Stud Team defends their PNW Tag titles against the Douglas Dream hand-picked challengers called the Masked Avengers.
